THINKING ABOUT GETTING A PARROT?

I (will, since I haven't actually finished updating my site LOL) talk about my parrots like they're the best thing since sliced bread (they are), but unfortunately...parrots are objectively bad pets. I would not recommend them to most people, not only for the parrot's sake, but for theirs as well!

Here's some information and advice if you're thinking about becoming a parront! I'm by no means an expert, nor a perfect parront. There's always room for improvement and things to learn, so I hope to at least provide a good starting point for anyone thinking about bringing a parrot home!

NON-NEGOTIABLES

There are things a parrot owner must be able to do, or willing to change. These are what I would consider the bare minimum requirements for becoming a prospective parront.

Are you willing to properly educate yourself in parrot care?

Are you willing/able to invest in a proper setup for a parrot?

Are you willing to make permanent lifestyle changes for them?

Are you willing to get bit?

Are you willing to hear them yell (often)?

Are you willing to clean up after them?

Are the people in your life on board for a parrot?

That last point isn't solely up to a prospective parront, but important to consider! These are emotional, destructive, loud, long-living creatures. Anyone who may share the same space with them needs to understand how coexistence will change their life.

If you are not realistically able to meet these points, I would suggest either looking into domesticated birds who also are wonderful companions (and are actually suited to life with humans) or revisting parrot ownership at another date.
